This book has it all; all the imaginable and possible lists! Thousands of names and hundreds of lists. From the world's top 100 people, most influential persons in the United States, the most beautiful women in America, to the best and worst books, politicians, celebrities, music, novels, leaders, fashion and those who are screwing up America today.
What caught my eyes are two sections; A survey on what Americans and people from around the world love and hate most. The author, Maximillien de Lafayette who wrote over 100 books, and visited so many countries gathered a fleet of researchers to conduct a survey worldwide on the most important, funniest and silliest things in our life. Almost one million people were interviewed. It is so interesting to learn about the similarities and differences that exist between people around the globe. The survey is magnetizing. It covers so many territories ranging from "talking during intercourse" to "the greatest minds and inventions of our time."
Other section on people who have shaped our world is astonishing, because it appears -always according to book's survey - that stars and famous singers managed to alter our way of life and how we function in our environment. The author gives many examples. The book contains at least 300 extensive lists in almost all the important fields. It is a huge book in 2 volumes. Each is around 740 pages. So much to learn about the world we live in, from this book. It is like a huge encyclopedia but fun and hilarious. Don't think for a moment it is gossipy. Not at all, it has lots of substance, in-depth articles and so much information. The author has a great sense of humour. He is hilarious, yet so deep and analytical. You will love this book. It is so wonderfoooooooooooooooooool. Perfect!
I am sure this is the best book ever written about lists.

If you are a list fanatic, and who isn't these days, this book is for you. I have never seen such an authoritative compilation of lists and commentary, and of course I am a list fanatic myself, so I have seen many. The author is in a privileged position to write the book and compile all those lists. Maximillien de Lafayette has traveled through forty-six countries (and claims that he has been thrown out of many of them for various reasons that shall remain shrouded in mystery; perhaps some day we can expect a list?). He is fluent in seven languages, and the author of numerous books. His interest and accomplishments in various disciplines range from classical and abstract art to international law, with writing dramas and plays, ancient civilizations, entertainment, music, customs, cultures, animals, and psychology in between. But the lists are not generated solely by Mr. De Lafayette. They are a prism of global opinions, scholarly research, essays, polls, and surveys, by the world media and various journalists, as well as the general public. The commentaries are all by the author, though, and they are priceless - opinionated as his work always is, intelligent, and sparkling with wit.

MY FAVORITE BOOK OF THE SEASON!

Review at Amazon: With great interest and enormous joy I read this book and could not put it down. It is fun, fun, fun. I did not know that Estee Lauder perfume "Country Mist" failed miserably in Germany because the word MIST means manure in German, until I read this book! Surprised to read in the book that some French names raise red flag In France. For instance, Chantal means barracuda, Bernadette is innocent, Angele (Angela) in decent, Brigitte is unpredictable, Lou Lou is a teaser and Maurice is a playboy! The book is filled with captivating stories from around the world. The author in a bursting simplicity explains the characteristic features and personality of Americans and people in 135 countries! WOW! It is overwhelming. Ranging from tradition, social etiquette and love to the bizarre, the secret and taboos. I was particularly taken by the list of the outstanding people of our time and those who made a direct impact on our life, starting with George Bush and Hillary Clinton and ending with Madonna and Al Pacino. The roster of the most important American celebrities and the best and worst of our politicians is a coup de grace. Read the book. You got to read it; it is enjoyable and so much entertaining. This is my favorite book of the Season.

The author chose the most important characteristic features and particularities of each country worldwide, to acquaint the readers with the social fabric of each nation. In his selection, Jazz was the predominant art platform of American cultural and artistic heritage.  Among the top honorees in the entertainment section, were B.B.
